My Mentor

Mr. Kevin Jennings is a middle school teacher at Montera Middle school. He has been teaching there for 6 years as a facilitator for the African American Male Achievement (AAMA) Manhood Development Class (MDP). He’s taught all boys of color with different backgrounds, and experiences while trying to start their own journeys into manhood. He is a Oakland native, attending McClymonds High School in West Oakland, then went to Dillard then finished undergraduate school at cal state east bay majoring in Mass Communications. After high school he was not planning on mentoring and teaching anyone. This was not his life goals after college, he wanted to be a journalist and wanted to excel writing. When he received the call for the open position to become an facilitator he gladly took it. Ever since he has started teaching and working for AAMA he has made such an impact on the lives of his students and myself included. I would consider him to be an expert in this field because of how he has taught the Kings in the class and was able to build the necessary relationships with the students. This leads to trust and healthy bonds being built that helps the Kings enter into Manhood.
